The Remnant

Glass Bottle Remnant

Over the weekend, I heard a young lady express her sentiment towards someone, describing how she could damage them with the remnant of a glass bottle. (I know this sounds kinda ghetto or crazy, but hear me out.)
Sometimes, it can be lonely or a little saddening to be alone, or to be a ‘left over’ but after hearing her share about ‘beating someone up’ with the bottle, I began to think of this in spiritual terms.

Don’t feel bad about what you have done, been through, or have otherwise experienced.
God broke you and positioned you to be sharp and gave you the ability to use what he has given you to do His work!

If the remnant will stay focused and sharp, at our post, we are more powerful as the remnant, as compared to the whole bottle.

We may be less than we used to be in some regards, but we are more dangerous and stronger than we used to be in the eyes of God!

You Ain’t Better Than Me

How many times have you heard someone say, You ” … ain’t no better than me… ”

better than me

I’ve seen where people at work, or in families struggle and strive to ‘better than’ each other.

I’ve seen where parents don’t want their children to be better than them:

A mother strive to be better than her daughter.

A father strive to be better than his son.

But I’m so humbled and grateful that the Lord wants us to do greater things than He:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If e shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 14:12-14

… And you know what else, He has empowered us to do so!

… But Did You Die?

Yesterday, I noticed that a good friend of mine posted an image on her Instagram.

The image was the picture below, that says, “… People talk about my driving, but did you die?

but_did_you_die

I chuckled, laughed, and liked the post.

In the quiet, I reflected and thought of all of the things I’ve complained about; things that I heard other people complain about.

Failing tests/papers/classes, being broke, car accidents, being in bad relationships, being sick, being diagnosed with deadly diseases or ailments, being raped, being hurt, spraining both ankles, spouse cheating  … So many things things that may make you wanna cry for days.  Idk,  maybe you did cry for days.

-But as people of God, at the end of the day, we are not dead; the Lord has given us a way of escape!

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it (I Corinthians 10:13).

-At the end of the situation, He has delivered us!

O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle (Psalm 140:7).

-He is our refuge and our strength and our help!

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

God is saying that He has saved us for a time such as this! Stand up straight, put your head up, and walk on. Don’t waste your life. God has given you a second chance, now do something with it!

I am humbled and honored to say, that I have been through a many things but, no, I did not die.

I am not minimizing the significance of what happened, but I give God glory for seeing something in us and for saving us for a time such as this.  I give God praise for his love, grace, favor, and mercy.  I am thankful for his patience, and kindness for these things are overflowing and unmerited.

You Grow, Girl!

One of the biggest themes in my life is personal growth.

I want to grow and be a better person every day; I also feel compelled to help others to do the same.  In this vein, many of the things that I am doing now is sharing my experiences as I grow.  One thing that is surpassing my understanding is the formation and execution of the B4 Women’s Empowerment Network.  I’m excited to be working with these ladies … it’s definitely a God thing!!!  One of the things that I have been directed to do is share many of the things that the Lord has shared with me about my growth in Him.

Here’s a tidbit:

As we we walk with Christ, He shines His light to show us who we are AND who we need to be.

The difference between one person and the next is the way we respond when the Lord shows us.

When He shows us our faults, listen, and move in obedience – the humble response to His will for your life.

Don’t be angry.

Don’t ignore Him.

Don’t let your heart wax cold to His word.

He loves you, He cares, and He will never leave or forsake you!

I’ve noticed that the quicker we obey, the better we are, and the quicker we will obey on His next request- growth is increasing at an increasing rate!

Overthrow!

OVERTHROW_LOGO

As people of the Most High God, one of the most powerful things that we can do is intentionally overthrow evil, sin, and death.

Somethings are more clear than others:

In Ephesians 5, the bible tells us to:

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body (I Corinthians 6:18) and But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; (Ephesians 5:3).

Also, Romans 1:21-32 tells us other tells us other things that we should overthrow.

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Does It Really Matter?

Good morning all,

Before you start embracing the day, take a few moments to reflect on your life- what you have done and what you are doing now. Think about your plan or vision or dream.  Does it really matter?

I remember learning about the three states of matter-

statesofmatter

Source: http://fc2.galenaparkisd.com/~azavala/?OpenItemURL=S05689BB3-05689BB3

I remember questioning if gases were matter … we cannot see gases, are they really real?

Sometimes, when we get distracted, we think that because something is not presently tangible that it is not real.  Surely, gases are real, because when brought to the proper temperature, they become solid.  God is a spirit, and they that worship Him worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. When the heat turns up in your life, you can depend on a solid, the Rock, Jesus Christ.  Yet, one day, not many days hence, we shall behold Him.

When we do, I pray that we have spent our lives doing what matters and that what have done will solidify as we stand before God.

Think about your life. As you think, think about:

your level of influence.

the time that you are investing into your projects.

the people that you are working with, helping, etc.

THEN be honest about the long-term effects of your effort, your life’s work.

Will what you are doing matter in eternity?

Know that the most important things that you can do for your self and for others is prepare for eternity…

After all, that is why we are here. To prepare for what lies after this.

Nothing else matters.

No matter how much money you make, no matter your title at work, and yes, even in the church.

If you have a title, great, what are you doing with it? Don’t get caught up with the humanistic viewpoint or expectations of your title. Seek God.

Are you being a light, and consistently pointing people to Christ?

If not, change gears.  Don’t waste your life, your time, and don’t waste other people’s time either.

If You Don’t Like What’s Growing In Your Life Change The Seeds You Plant

Yesterday, I blogged about how people of God should promote peace.

I ended my post with this hash tag:

#IfYouDontLikeWhatsGrowingInYourLifeChangeTheSeedsYouPlant

Take note:

Life and death is in the power of your tongue (Proverbs 18:21).

What ever you say will manifest in your life, Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops (Luke 12:3).

Speak love, love, and be loved.

Speak peace, be peaceful, and surrounded by (people with) peace.

Look at the Genesis account,

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:1-4).

Surrounded by darkness, God said, Let there be light, and there was light.  🙂

Go Before Me, Lord God

I cannot say that I understand exactly what God is doing right now, but I believe that the Lord is asking me to pray a specific type of prayer.   A prayer of preparation.

Because of this, I am sharing this with you.

Lord,

I come to you this morning, thanking and praising you for allowing me to hear you voice, and desire to quickly take heed. Thank you for that.

Lord, in my life, go before me.

Make the darkness light, before me.

Prepare a table before me, even in the presence of my enemies.

Make every crooked path straight!

In the mighty name of Jesus!

And Standing At the Root of the Tree

And standing at the root of the tree was an axe, ready to cut down every part of vegetation that need not be there. I had let so many things grow that needed to go!

-And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire (Matthew 3:10).

It is important to always be ready to purge/ be purged. being ok with loosing parts of ‘you’ is difficult but imperative in order to be more like Christ.

– Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; (I Peter 2:11).

– Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him (I John 2:15).

– And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell (Matthew 5:29).

All in all, it’ll be worth it, because we are intentionally remembering that doing so will push us closer to who God has purposed us to be. 🙂

Stuck in the Mud

Sometimes, when we achieve a desired outcome, we get stuck in the mud.

We get over-excited about our achievement and stay there.

Proud of what we have accomplished we sit and reflect.  We do need to reflect, but then quickly move forward. Why? I’m glad you asked!

Our work is not done yet!  As people of the Most High,

We press toward the mark, ‘I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 3:14).

We move from Faith to Faith, For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17).

… and from Glory to Glory But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord (I Corinthians 3:18).

More specifically, we must remember that nothing that has happened to us is solely for us.

God allows us to go through trials, tribulations, and triumphs so that we can:

1. Share our good news with others.

2. Teach others to pass the test using helpful hints, guidelines, etc.

3. Teach others to avoid our pitfalls altogether.

No so that we can sit back and be amazed at all of ‘our good work’ all day, lol.

Let me give you an example. Genesis 1:31 explains that the Lord looked at all of His creation and that it was good.

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

… Key point-

He did an excellent job. He did not stop there. He kept pressing, doing, creating,  … as we all know, he has shown Himself strong throughout history.

Philippians 1:6 explains, Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

We are each a work in progress until He calls us away from this life.

Don’t get stuck in the mud of great accomplishments, keep pressing. 🙂

Let’s Stay Together!

It is clear that God places great importance on people coming being on one accord. We need to come together, unify, fellowship, work together well, and stay together, fulfilling His purpose for our lives.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth (Genesis 1:26).

And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; (Mark 6:7).

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
(Amos 3:3).

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman (John 15:1).

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him (Genesis 2:8).

And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword (Leviticus 26:8).  In other words, ‘the mo, the merrier’, lol.

How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up? (Deuteronomy 32:30)

Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? (Ecclesiastes 4:11).

Other scriptures passages indicate the power of unity:

The Day of Penecost

1. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1-4).

The Tower of Babel

11 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do (Genesis 11:1-6).

Moses’ friends held his arms up:
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation (Exodous 17:8-16).

The lame man’s friends helped him get healed:
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he  (Jesus) saw their (his friends) faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee (Luke 5:17-20).

Another important point:

We need to stay together, in love … Ever seen a couple who’s been married 50 years who argue and fight all day? They might as well have divorced 49 years ago…

Congratulations, you simply never got a divorce!! Same goes for other relationships. Don’t just be with folks because you can’t stand to be apart, but rather because you enjoy their company and you each encourage the other to grow and flourish.

No More Silos

Sometimes in life, we hear something from God and place the info into one particular silo.

A silo (from the Greek σιρός – siros, “pit for holding grain”) is a structure for storing bulk materials. Silos are used in agriculture to store grain or fermented feed known as silage. Silos are more commonly used for bulk storage of grain, coalcementcarbon blackwoodchips, food products and sawdust. Three types of silos are in widespread use today: tower silos, bunker silos, and bag silos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silo).

Commonly, we use silos because we have learned that everything has its place:

This goes over here, and that goes over there.

Let’s put everything in its place.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the word of God, we bring this concept in also: “The bible says, Love thy neighbor as thyself. My neighbors are those people who live next door. Those are the only people I love!”

“I trust the Lord with my family, my job, my education, but my money … well, that’s for me.”

I pray, O Lord, teach us to think outside of the silos that we have set up. Teach us to, when we hear your word, to never assume that we know what you are saying. Teach us to go to You for clarification, for it is unlikely that we understand every angle of what You bring to us, for is says in your word:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33).

As I noted in an earlier blog post, we need to think about where our thinking has brought us and live under the direction of Jesus Christ.  Silos may be great for storing corn or wheat, but certainly let the Word spillover into every area of our lives. Let Him rest, rule and abide.

Who’s Your Daddy?

In the movie Life Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence were in a scene when prisoners were lined up and asked if they were the father of a baby.  This was a comical scene, but very important to the grandfather of the child.  It is very important who we yoke up with, but that’s another story…

In the movie, someone stepped up and said ‘I Da Pappy’. Lol. It was evident that he was not.

This movie reminded me of a conversation that I had with a friend about her position teaching Pre-K at a public school. My friend said that some of the 2-3 year old kids use profanity.  (She’s a very humble women and does not judge people.)  She told me about how, during open house and other periods of visitation, she can easily match your parents with their children without and before being formally introduced. Using only…

common phrases and expressions

the use of profanity

she even chuckled that she can almost pair kids and parents by which words are used.

body language and gestures

other words that are not ‘cursing’, or ‘profanity’, but are simply unkind.

So the question is, people of God …

What indicators are there to indicate who our father is?

-Do you curse or use profanity or lie or deceive??

-Do we behave unseemly?

-Do we consistently manifest Jesus Christ in every way?

-Do we positively or negatively influence people?

-Do we always have something negative to say or add?

-Do we add value to the lives of the people who are in our circle of influence?

After viewing our lives, our thoughts, our behavior, would God claim us?

Or are we the child of another?

Chose Christ!

I challenge you to manifest His behavior in every arena.

I challenge Christians to spend more time with the Lord – to spend more time in His word.

And to do it so much so that we are His reflection. 🙂
